Daily Program Update: Session 2 Registration Day

Today marks the beginning of the 2nd session at Rice University. NSLC welcomed over 130 students to campus. After settling into their rooms, students ate dinner and headed off to their opening ceremony.

Daily Program Update: So Long, Everybody!

Tuesday was the final day of our first session of NSLC at Rice University! Thank you for following along with us.

For students, the day began with a closing ceremony to present individual and group awards, a recap video, graduation materials, and final remarks from our program directors. Students then checked out of their rooms and said their goodbyes. Safe travels, everyone!

In the coming days, students will also be able to view albums of photos in their myNSLC portals.

Selena Brown is passionate about helping others learn to recognize their truth and find the courage to live a life that honors their light.

With an M.A. in Counseling Psychology, an M.Ed. in International Education, and doctoral studies in Theatre Arts & Performance Studies, Selena borrows from multiple fields to craft a message tailor-fit to teens. In addition to serving as a Leadership Facilitator and International Enrollment Counselor for the National Student Leadership Conference, Selena runs Pramāna Wellness (www.pramana.live), where she combines her expertise in psychotherapy with yoga and meditation to help clients of all ages cultivate more empowered lives.

Daily Program Update: NASA Weekend

Over the weekend, students in both the Medicine & Health Care and Engineering programs were able to see many of the ins and outs of space exploration. On Saturday, Dr. William J. Tarver, a NASA flight surgeon spoke to HEAL students about his experiences keeping astronauts happy and healthy while on space missions. Throughout Saturday and Sunday, students took turns visiting Space Center Houston, exploring historic sites like the Apollo era Mission Control Center, Rocket Park, and the Space Vehicle Mockup Facility, where astronauts still train today.

Daily Program Update: HEAL Simulation Lab

Today, Medicine & Health Care students visited the University of Texas’ McGovern Medical School. They were provided with demonstrations and hands-on advice about intubation, lumbar punctures, ultrasounds, and IVs.
